Figaro was a sweet old gentleman-cat. He came to us about 4 years ago when a good friend of our son’s was moving out of a rental that was to be sold and the cat that was “part of the house” was going to the shelter. The guys didn’t think that an old cat had much chance to be adopted so they asked if we would take Figaro as an outdoor cat. We already had 7 cats (indoors and out) so what’s one more!
The outdoor boss cat, Chester, always tested other cats. He didn’t beat them up but he would sit real close to them to get a reaction; plus Chester was always first at the food bowls. Figaro being a shy cat didn’t tolerate Chester being in his face, so he moved out of the cat shed and hid under the house. That worked to his advantage as we felt sorry for him and moved him inside.
Figaro didn’t do much but eat, slowly dodder around the house, and lay in a sunbeam or on the bathroom shelf. The one activity that really got the old guy moving was chasing the laser pointer. For an old, otherwise sedate cat, that red dot transformed him into an energetic kitten at least for a few minutes.
He was very gentle and took his medication for hyperthyroidism without a struggle. He got along fine with Hexadecimal, the miniature pincher, but the downstairs herd of cats also frightened him when they came upstairs. He was kind of a wimp.
Figaro, we enjoyed your company while you were with us.
