Nikita
My husband, Neil, and I are beyond grief after saying good-bye to our little princess, Nikita, on April 4, 2011. November 24, 1995 Nikita and Chucho were born and we couldn’t wait to bring them home from the breeder. Brother and sister, they were never apart. We took them to the vet together, camping, and day trips in the truck/car… they loved playing in the backyard, playing in the snow, taking their Dad out for a ride on his skateboard, or even pulling him on a sled in the yard. They loved to play. Nikita was not a talker like her brother, and didn’t love to be brushed like he did, but she had her own unique personality, very sweet and playful. Nikita out-lived her brother by about 8 months. Having dogs for 16 years and coming home to an empty house has really been difficult for us. The last 8 months, Nikita went with her dad to work everyday as she couldn’t be left alone at home without her brother around. She loved riding in the truck. Her legs were strong, but started to go and we tried “doggie aspirin and pain- be- gone- pills” everything, trying to give her some comfort. Nikita was a smart one and totally new what chunk of meat had a pill in it! We even put all new rugs down on the floor to help her not slip on the hard wood floors. Nikita went from being a total outdoor dog to an indoor dog overnight when Chucho left us. She stood in the corners and was constantly looking for him. She made her bed on top of our leather sofa and never left our sides. We knew she was grieving and missing him. We found out how much she depended on her brother because we learned she couldn’t hear anymore. Nikita was not one for liking bath, hated to be brushed and just got to the point she barely liked to be touched. She was hurting and it was time, we just couldn’t bare to be without her.
I can only imagine them playing without pain now and running again like they were puppies, they are re-united with each other and I am happy she is no longer lonely without her brother by her side. I know Chucho was waiting for her and I know he was there with his tail wagging and his tongue hanging out. I will remember our last trip to the ocean and how you followed your Dad running in the water, and our many camping trips, and our long walks at the dog park. You were our special girl. We were with you till the very end and saying good-bye was very hard, until we meet again, Nikita, we will always love and miss you.
