Loki and Keena

A donation was made in memory of Loki and Keena by the doctors and staff at Loyal Family Veterinary Hospital on Jun 28, 2021.

Loki and Keena were brother and sister from the same litter, born August 5, 2005. They were saved from a shelter at 6 weeks of age and taken immediately to the veterinarian for a 2 week stay to get them healthy. I love them both very much. Loki was named for the Norse God of mischief…and he lived up to his name in every way. He liked to eat paper and there was no shortage of toilet paper for him to drag throughout the house, howling all the way like he caught something. He actually ate two checks, years apart, worth thousands. How often can you call an organization (one being the IRS) and say, “my cat ate my check…no seriously!” …Twice! He also chewed up some awfully expensive noise-cancelling headphones, many a flip flop, and often “dropped” goodies (expensive human items) for the dogs to enjoy too. Loki would “share” our English Bulldog Winston’s meals with him by putting his paw into the bowl while Winston was eating and pull out pieces of food. Sometimes he would even drag the food bowl away from Winston! Loki was also very smart. He learned how to use the toilet (human toilet) but we never could cash in on that fantastic feat as his sister couldn’t pull it off. One of my favorite things Loki did was every time I stepped out of my slippers, wherever they were, he would “catch” them and drag them into the kitchen for me, howling the entire time. He sometimes took them up several flights of stairs! I always knew where to find my slippers. I also loved it when Loki would sit on the back of the couch behind my head and burrow into my hair and push on my head like he was nesting. Loki was a sweet, cuddly, mischievous little boy. Keena means “brave little girl” in Gaelic. While Loki was batting at me though the cage, Keena was timid and sweet. She was a tiny, sick little girl when I brought her home from the shelter and I didn’t know if she was going to make it…so I named her Brave, and she was. Keena liked to chase lights, dust particles, bugs…anything that floated or flew before her eyes. She watched the squirrels through the screen door and talked to them. She was sweet and cuddly and always snuggled with me. She liked to lay on her back and flip her body around like a fish. It was so cute! Keena liked to talk to you too and was fond of the dogs. Where Loki had insulin-dependent diabetes for the past 7 years, Keena was perfectly healthy until 10 months ago. After she passed Loki, who was stable, became depressed and stopped being interested in food or activities. I think his heart was broken. He passed exactly one month later. They were a pair from the beginning and could not be without one another. I miss them dearly but am happy that they are together again. I love you Keena and Loki.
