Bandit

A donation was made in memory of Bandit by the doctors and staff at Ravenna Animal Hospital on Aug 31, 2022.

Bandit (Boxer-Mastiff - a "boxmas") and his best friend Bonnie (German Shepherd) came into my life in 2016 after the loss of another treasured dog Sadie (Harrier hound mix). Together, they were adopted as a 'bonded pair' from a rescue at the ages of 4&6, after 5 months in crates. Bandit was quick to warm up, crawling up his humans to cuddle and hug, and looking forward to 'wake up' time every morning. However he was a bit guarded and fearful as well, and his trust of others took time to grow. In time, he became the most extroverted, friendly, hilarious dog who would demand butt scratches from just about anyone willing to give them. He would lean against you, or back up his 'cinnamon swirls' (adorable tufted hair on his back legs) to you, expecting scratches on demand! His personality was huge - with his love of toys (de-stuffing them all), sneaking away to sleep on the guest bed, pawing for scratches, gentle kisses, cuddling into his humans, and his delicate way of accepting a treat. He was a consummate bowl-licker/plate cleaner. He had a love of 'tanning' in the sun. He howled to his pack every time a siren was nearby. And he adored his best friend Bonnie - sleeping on his "Bonnie Butt Pillow," accepting her kisses/licks, and going on endless adventures as a pair. They were inseparable, and Bonnie misses him terribly. Bandit's loss is huge as he filled such a large 'space'. I feel forever grateful to have been his adoptive mom, and to have him as my best friend. Adopting adult dogs is such a gift that I will continue throughout my life. The rewards are absolutely amazing. Bandit's last 2 months after being diagnosed with incurable chemodectoma were filled with an outpouring of love and all of his favorite things, Although way too soon, his passing on August 25th 2022 allowed him to be comfortable, breathe easily, and join Sadie over the Rainbow Bridge. I will love him forever.

Comments: I was lucky enough to meet sweet Bandit and Bonnie through their amazing mother, Shannon, with whom I work in the operating room. Bandit was the sweetest boy, with the most handsome smile and insatiable want for butt scratches. Always a gentleman, Bandit was the most affectionate and loving critter. The unconditional love between Shannon and Bandit and Bonnie is testament to the wonderful life Shannon provided for them. She will stop at nothing to ensure the best care for her critters. I am thankful this memorial program exists to provide comfort, resources, and loving memories to our best friends who have crossed over the rainbow bridge. We love you Bandit and miss you dearly.
