Oliver

A donation was made in memory of Oliver by Doctors and Staff of the Sacajawea Healthcare for Pets on Jul 26, 2011.

We adopted Oliver earlier this spring from Denise's Delightful Dookers shelter in Auburn. He had been found in a field in the middle of winter; whether dumped or simply lost, we will never know. We were looking for a friend for our ferret Gabriel, who was lonely after the passing of his two companions a few months before. Ollie was a big, butterscotch-colored boy who quickly grew sleek and strong with good nutrition and exercise after his ordeal. For the first few weeks, he was shy and uncertain - all he wanted was to be held and cuddled. When he realized he had a home and a family, he really started to blossom. He ran and jumped and played and danced with such joy and exuberance. He taught Gabriel how to play new games, and he liked to watch the many squirrels and birds who frequent our yard. Sadly, Oliver was recently struck down suddenly and unexpectedly by what appeared to be cardiac failure from previously unrevealed heart disease. He should have had a long and happy life full of love and joy. Even though he was taken from us too quickly, he will always have a place in our hearts. We wish to thank Dr. Christina Crouthers and the staff at Sacajawea Healthcare for Pets for their excellent, tender care of Oliver while he was with us and for their kind donation to WSU College of Veterinary Medicine in his memory.
