Hudson
I met Hudson on the second day of his life and he was my near constant companion until the last day of his life. He was big, calm, protective and he was loved by all. As big and tough as he appeared to be, his favorite inside toys were soft and fuzzy stuffed animals; his very favorite was Elephanta. Outside he loved to hunt. We walked for hours and he never tired. He would jump off the dock and swim forever chasing and retrieving tennis balls and bringing them right back for more.
He took care of and protected our family. He was our alpha male, big, strong, and scary to others, but a sweetheart at his core. He especially protected us from the squirrels in our back yard. Day after day the squirrels would jump from tree to tree, from tree to fence and back to the trees and Hudson would chase them back and forth and never tire. I think it was a game that they played.
Hudson helped train our younger, yellow lab, Denali and cared for her, played with her and protected her like a little sister and best friend. He was always calm and always without complaint. I know Hudson watches over us and protects us still. He is sorely missed and I look forward to seeing him again when the time is right. Until then I try to learn from his patient, calm nature and I see him at night in the stars.
