Owen
Owen’s story began inside a pet story on south 72nd in Tacoma. I saw his
small black wiry body and thought he was the cutest dog I had ever seen. I
took him home…
Owen was my friend, protector, and a loyal companion. All the things a dog
is said to be, but Owen was special. He loved to dive under water, carry
boulder rocks in his mouth, and attack squirrels. He loved long walks,
sleeping under the covers so he could not breathe right and hanging out with
me. Owen cared for my dad and mom. He devoured food, really any kind. He was
a unique looking dog and for sure had his favorite people. But Owen became
aggressive over the years and after having my baby I had to make one of the
toughest decisions of my life. We had to put Owen down.
One thing I learned from Owen’s death was that we go through life to
quickly, we need to slow down. People seem to enjoy less in this fast pace
world and I committed to stopping that. I struggle to spend time with the
people and animals I love because there is always something that has to be
done, but not anymore! Life is to short and death should not be a reminder.
I am writing this to deal with my pain of losing my dog and I suppose the
pain of losing my dad five years ago. What gives me solace is that they are
together, because Dad was Owen had a special bond.
Owen and dad taught me to love and be patience. I love you Owen. I love you
Dad.
