  My Abbey Girl

In April of 1995 I lost my dog "Tuesday." She was a 17 year old Husky Shepherd mix. She was amazingly healthy and lived a really long time for a dog her size. I loved her very much. One day I woke up and she couldn't walk. Her hips just went. I had to have her euthanized. I swore I'd never get another dog, it really broke my heart.

On August 5th 1995 I decided I couldn't stand not having a dog. I bought a tiny little Doberman puppy. I was told she was the runt. She was walking around, looked healthy and had a chubby puppy belly. After taking her home all she did was vomit and she had constant diarrhea. She wouldn't eat or drink or make any kind of sound. I took her to the vet right away. Parvo test was negative. We found she was actually only two weeks old. I had to feed her through a syringe (no needle) with a mothers milk substitute and eye droppers full of pedialyte for a couple weeks then on to soft food. With the help of an amazing Veterinarian we got her healthy.

My Abby Girl
It was funny how she got her name, Abbey Road. The Vet called me the day after I had left her there overnight to find out what was wrong. She said "listen to this" and my puppy barked! She asked me if she had a name yet and at that moment I was holding the Beatles Abbey Road CD ... hence her name.

Well ... 10 years, one month and four days later I had to have Abbey euthanized. September 9th 2005. She had "wobblers." She had a very mild case for five years and we managed them well and she always recovered quickly. This last episode she went down hill quickly and ended up paralyzed. My heart is broken! We bonded in the most amazing way because of her rough start and she always really thought I was her mother. She never did anything wrong! She was housebroken at 6 weeks and learned all of her tricks by the time she was 10 weeks old. She never chewed anything that wasn't hers and never left my side when we were outdoors. She was very very intelligent. She actually had "manners." I owned a business and she went to work with me every day. Everyone she ever met absolutely loved her. She was a warm cuddly loving dog. She was my baby and my best friend and she will forever be a part of my heart.

I'm not taking this very well. I miss her so much, there are no words to express how much ... .

Janet
