Kodak
Kodak came to work with me from the
time he was eight weeks old until the day before he was euthanized.
He was my office buddy, my heart and my soul. He was hit by a car
when he was 10 months old and broke the growth plate in his right
foreleg.
At around eight years the anterior cruiciate ligament broke in his
right rear leg. There was a three month recuperation period. The day
that it was O.K. to start running again, the ligament in his left
rear leg broke. So, it was back to surgery and another three months
of laying low. He never complained. He recovered well and in no time
was back retrieving pheasant, quail, and other game birds with his
best friend, Tracy who had trained him. Later he was diagnosed with
Osteosarcoma and I was told that the leg would have to be amputated.
He then went into Chemotherapy. After the chemo was done he went on
to swim strongly again (I was told he would not be able to swim with
one foreleg missing), run, retrieve. He went upland bird hunting. He
retrieved quail. He retrieved a pheasant. Then, at about eleven, he
started to pant heavily and slow down considerably. It was obvious
that he was having some problems. I had him tested again for
any other problems and was informed that they had discovered pelvic
cancer. He was euthanized at home. I miss him so much, I still don't
know what I will do without him. |
