My husband and I weren't even looking for a dog, we already had 5 indoor cats, but one day I was browsing PetFinder on a work break. This sweet little face popped up at the same time my husband showed up at my office (not expected). I turned my monitor towards him, and he said "that's our dog." Gizmo was 8 weeks old at the time and was in a foster home with his brother. I contacted the shelter, filled out the application, and the foster mom brought him to our house for a meet and greet. He never went back. From the moment he entered our lives, we were changed forever. He was by far the smartest dog we had ever encountered. He knew all of his toys by name, and so many commands and tricks, I had to write them down. I took him to visit a friend in a rehab facility and that's when we discovered his aptitude for therapy. I signed up at Pet Partners and we took the course to become a registered therapy team. His ability to go from happy, crazy, playful dog to "working" at the hospital was nothing short of a miracle. We did 5 1/2 years of Animal Assisted Therapy at a local hospital and loved every minute of it. He didn't look like any other dog so patients focused on him and his tricks, rather than their pain. He was the love of our lives and we had him for 15 glorious and amazing years. There will never be another like him and we feel so blessed we were his mom and dad. We love you and miss you every day, little monkey man. You are forever in our hearts, Gizmo.
