We got Merlot when he was 8 wks. old and he had his first seizure at 10 wks. The breeder offered to buy him back - we said NO. Our previous poodle had seizures and we knew how to live with them. Merlot was meant to be ours. Over the yrs. he had numerous major health issues, including allergies- funny since he was a hypo allergenic dog, but finally his heart just wore out from all of the health issues. Unless you knew his medical issues first hand, you would have never known he was sick or had any health problems over all the years. Merlot had phenomenal veterinary care from Yakima Valley Veterinary Clinic from the beginning from Dr. Dave Hinz and Dr. Julie Young. They were the ones that really and truly got his seizures under control and he adored them. Merlot showed no favoritism even though he was my dog. He would lay 1/2 way between us if we were in different rooms. He loved us unconditionally and never stopped. Merlot’s vets were always amazed at every illness Merlot survived. He was litter box trained and never had an accident until just a short time ago when he developed Cushing’s but soon that was under control and he was back to using the box. Everyone that knew Merlot, knew him as the dog that would wave at them. I didn’t teach him that, but I was the only one that could get him to do it on command to say HI and Bye. We were lucky enough to have him in our lives for almost 13 yrs. Life is a whole lot sadder without him. I will forever miss his waves and the twinkle in his eyes. He only weighed 8.8 lbs. but had the biggest heart and will be forever missed.
