CHLOE

Chloe was our neighbor’s cat for the first seven years of her life. When her original owners no longer had time for her, she decided to look for a new family. Fortunately, she found her way to our doorstep in 1999, when this picture was taken.

Chloe was, obviously, a beautiful cat, but what most endured her to us was her personality. Most of the time, she was very sweet and was a great substitute mother when we later brought a kitten, Gracie, into the house. Every so often, however, she’d take a nip at us; not enough to draw blood, but just enough to remind us who was boss—or “The Queen,” as our friend nicknamed her.

About a year ago, Chloe started suffering from repeated urinary tract infections and advancing kidney disease. The terrific staff at Queen Anne Animal Clinic, and particularly Dr. Westerdahl, did everything they could to prolong her life, but, sadly, she lost her battle on July 3, 2010. Fortunately, all of her test results indicated that it was time, so we didn’t really have to make a decision; she, gratefully, made it for us.

Chloe was “marking” us with her head until the very end, which we’d like to think meant she was saying good-bye—and thank you—to us and all the loving friends she’s had in her 17 years on earth. We’re going to miss our little “Chipmunk Killer,” but she will forever be in our hearts.
