A giant loss. Diesel 2007-2019

There he was, every time we returned home, sleeping peacefully by the front door. No overly excited licks, barks or nervous tale wags, just a simple raise of the head, signaling that he had missed us and was ready to play on our schedule, not his.

He never intruded or pushed to get attention or affection. He never had to. The world was drawn to him, like a big, warm, fluffy, furry magnet picking up kids, animals, strangers and countless curious passersby shouting his praises out of car windows and asking, “What kind of dog is that?” He’s made appearances in more tourist selfies in Beverly Hills than any Kardashian.

Although he often heard himself described as magnificent, stunning and incredible, he was just sweet Diesel...modest and polite, never recognizing his own majesty or glory. He humbly welcomed every hug or pat with appreciation - never lingering or expecting more.

He loved summer days at the Huntington Beach dog beach, running and romping with his buddies, retrieving his throw toy and sleeping in his tent. True to his rescuing instincts, he would never leave our front porch until he made sure the whole family was accounted for and ready to be escorted down the stairs.

For almost 7 years he worked full time in the Beverly Hills office of AOL. As head of HR (Hugs and Reassurances) he loved Mario's treat drawer and the Friday barbecue cookouts!

To say he was our dog doesn’t do him justice. He was so much more. He was and always will be our Diesel, our Newfie and our Big Boy. While our hearts are broken by our enormous loss, we will forever be thankful for the twelve years of love, loyalty and laughter we were so privileged to share. Thank you and rest in peace sweet D.
