14 wonderful years with the best powder pup, river dawg and porch hound I could ever dream of. Sweet Jan Jan came into my life unexpectedly when I was 22 years old. She and her sis showed up in my back yard as tiny little pups, never finding out who dropped them. Jan and Reba quickly became college town celebrities. Jan was by my side every day while I recovered from knee surgery. She is the reason I started long distance running. She was with me the first time I ever went backcountry skiing. She had been on river trips people wait their whole life to get a permit for. In 2015, I packed up my F150 with Jan by my side and we moved to Salt Lake City where I didn’t know anyone. There she lived as an illegal canyon dog, dropping pillow lines and making dollar signs up Silver Fork. That is where we met my husband and convinced him to move back to Montana with us. We bought 2 acres and I had joy knowing Janner Panner would spend her last days on our property. Jan laid by my feet during hundreds of hours while studying during nursing school. Jan walked with me down the aisle in my wedding and has been watching me raise my daughter. It’s hard to think about Jan not being around, it’s truly the end of an era in my life. There were many people that helped me care for Jan over the years so I could be a river guide and world traveler. Thank you to all. Jan was a wise, old soul. A soft demeanor from the beginning. As I took her on her last walk before she passed, I wondered how many walks I had taken her on in her life. How much time we spent on trails together. She helped mold the person I am today. We will miss her so so much.
