Snaps

A donation was made in memory of Snaps by Drs. West, Lehocky, DeBroeck, and Hui at VCA Redwood Animal Hospital on Sep 28, 2018.

Snaps joined our family in October of 2001 in the city of Las Vegas, and we hadn’t planned on getting our little dachshund until January the following year. Yet, when we saw her with her short red hair, we fell in love and immediately adopted her. She literally was the center of our world. Apart from working, we spent all our free time with her, training her, walking her, cuddling her, and keeping her out of trouble as she liked to eat anything she saw. Such a gentle soul, she got along with everyone… dogs, cats, and people. She let anyone she met pet her. A few years later, she relocated with her family to Seattle where she easily adjusted to the cooler temperatures. She then welcomed her two human brothers and stole food from their hands and tolerated an occasional tail pull. Snaps enjoyed sleeping in her brothers’ beds and faithfully slept in her Mom’s arms every night. She was always ready to take a nap with her Mom, so much so, that the phrase became “Time for a napper with Snappers!” Snaps was an avid traveler. She flew on airplanes to visit her family in Ohio on dozens of occasions. Besides airplanes, she traveled on ferry boats and was always willing to take a car ride. She also cheered on her brothers at their baseball games. When she wasn’t allowed in places because she was a dog, her owners placed her in her dog travel bag and tucked her away from sight discreetly as she never barked and was so quiet. In fact, she snuck into a radio museum in Bellingham, the Mt. St. Helen’s Visitor Center, and the Meteor Crater in New Mexico. Since she was so smart, she knew many tricks. She visited her brother’s schools and performed all her tricks to the amazement of the other children. In fact, she was so good at tricks that she once won first place in a dog trick contest. Snaps loved going for walks, but she preferred to go only when the weather was mild and ground was not wet. When she turned 12, she had a hard time walking, so her Dad bought her a bike basket and affixed it to her Mom’s bike. Snaps loved riding in the basket, and she drew attention from anyone who saw her. When she was 15 and 16, she welcomed two other doxies into the pack, Paws and Reese. Paws did not quite understand why Snaps didn’t want to play and Reese enjoyed sacking out for a nap nearby her. Sadly 1.5 weeks after celebrating her 17th birthday, Snaps suddenly had trouble breathing. She fought for 2 days, but we lost her. There will never be a dog as special as Snaps was. She was one in a million, and she will forever be in our hearts.

Comments: To our beloved and cherished Snaps. We miss all of your hijinks (such as stealing socks and sniffing and finding food anywhere). Miss you Puppas!
