Sherman

A donation was made in memory of Sherman by Doctors and Staff of the Anaheim Hills Pet Clinic on Apr 16, 2012.

A handsome smoky tabby cat with no collar came to our front door in 1998, probably abandoned by his previous owner. He was quite vocal, letting us know that a bowl of food would be greatly appreciated. We obliged. Ever since then, he was ours, and we decided to name him Sherman.

At the time, we had a dog (also found abandoned in our neighborhood), but Sherman didn’t mind her one bit. He was the type of cat that made friends easily, and in turn, those friends enjoyed just hanging around him. Many a time he would lie on the front porch enjoying the view and the warmth of the sun and we would notice a neighborhood cat next to him – just a buddy coming for a visit.

In 2002, we accidentally came across a scared and lonely kitten, which we brought home with the intentions of taking her to the Humane Society. Well, she never left our house, and Sherman took it upon himself to be her Daddy. He doted on her, watched her, took care of her, and always exhibited a curiosity that everything better be in order. That was Sherman. Had to know that everything was OK and that everyone was taken care of.

In 2004, a relative could no longer take care of his terrier mix, so he asked if we would like to adopt him. He was an adorable little guy and, of course, Sherman welcomed him quickly. When this little terrier died in 2010, Sherman was genuinely depressed and it took him about a month to get over the loss. We adopted another little dog from the Humane Society a month later, and Sherman made a new friend.

This last year, Sherman was slowly losing weight because he was losing his healthy and robust appetite. He was getting old. When we adopted him, our veterinarian assessed that he was about 2-3 years old, making him now 14-15. The last few weeks before his passing were rough – he didn’t want much food, had an overnight stay at the veterinarian, and just was not himself. We woke up one morning to find him in real bad shape. He had trouble standing up, would not eat or drink, and was bumping into walls and furniture. Our worst fears had finally come – his kidneys had shut down. It was time to say goodbye to our special boy. He passed away on 3/6/2012 and will always have a special place in our hearts.

We miss you sweet, dear, Sherman and look forward to seeing you on the other side. Job 12:10

We want to thank Dr. Riggs and his staff for the many years of care for our beloved cat and for the generous gift to the WSU Pet Memorial Program.

May God bless all our creatures, great and small.
