Bart was an amazing cat. He understood a lot of English words. He figured out how to open doors and knew that turning a door knob would gain him access. (If only he had opposable thumbs!) As a kitten born to a stray female Bart spent a week persuading me to adopt him. He sat by my driveway every morning when I left for work and was there at the end of the day when I came home.
By Friday evening he convinced me. HE belonged to ME. He lay across my neck purring that first night and purred continuously until morning. Neither one of us got much sleep. But what a thrill to know just how happy he was!
We were together ever since. I loved him very much.
Bart was an extremely smart cat. He was generous to kittens that were in similar dire circumstances as he was in his early days.
Bart invited a kitten that wasn't getting fed to my house one day. Bart led the cat to the food dish and said- here it is, help yourself. That cat I named Squirt (because he was a little squirt of fur) and he and Bart and were best buddies until the day Bart transitioned.
Bart knew how to peel gasket that holds screens in place, just enough to get out to my enclosed patio. No need to install a cat door... Bart did it himself!
I miss Bart. Every day. But he lives forever in my mind and heart.
♥
PS: Contrary to belief, Bart was not named after Bart Simpson, but after Bart Graves who was a popular radio journalist with a deep resonant voice in Phoenix, Ariz. where I lived at the time.
I fell in love with this beautiful black and white cat, Bart the cat.
