Spencer was one of four rescue animal that we'd acquired throughout the years, but he was our first Dachshund whom we had for 14 years. The first couple months after getting him and coming home from work to see our brand new stereo cabinet corners chewed off I thought "What have I gotten us into"! But as the years went by our little guy proved to be the best little buddy we could have ever asked for. He loved going to our cabin and chasing the chipmunks. One time we had a juvenile moose come up our road. Spencer saw him and took off down the road toward it, but once the moose stomped his hoofs, our little buddy come high tailing it back to his daddy and I. He always knew he'd get to lick out daddys bowl of ice cream once my husband was done. When my husband passed away a year ago now our fur babies missed him terribly. Spencer I think the very most. When I came home from work one day in December and walked in the door the only time Spencer said anything was a whimper whine. I knew something was wrong. I'd at first thought it was his back again, but I was wrong. I made a mad dash to the vet where they did tests and really found nothing wrong other than Spencer couldn't move. I pampered him all that night, came home for lunch to check on him the next day where he hadn't changed and again when I got home. I rocked him in my lap that evening in his favorite blanket where he finally took his last breath. I fully believed God allowed me that closure with my little buddy because I did not get to do that with my husband. I'm sure Gary met Spencer at the pearly gates of heaven with a bowl of ice cream to welcome him home. Gosh how I miss and loved those guys so much.
