CM CASTIZO & ANNA

It was a love at the first sight on Aug. 26, 2017 just a few days before my birthday anniversary. On that day CASTIZO arrived at our stable, Del Dios Peruvians, in Fallbrook, California. Although I didn’t have the equitation skills to work with CASTIZO at the time, still – I was the first and only one to get a kiss from him on that day. . A magnificent show-horse with a noble, yet reserved disposition, CASTIZO began competing again. But, God had different plans. . An injury in CASTIZO’s tendon revealed scars with years of a buildup, which disqualified him from extensive training. This is how the love story between the two of us began to unfold. We’d spend more time together, learning about each other, and building friendship and trust. As CASTIZO’s wounds continued to heal, he started coming out of his reticent shell. Upon hearing my voice from a distance, CASTIZO would call me to his stall. I’d come to greet him, give him treats, a bear-hug and kiss. I’d tell him about my week at work, and the plans I had for our day at the barn. This would be our ritual, which we carried for years until the very last day. . In October 2019 we started practicing stationary contortion tricks, as an avenue to find a new purpose for CASTIZO. This is how a new discipline, CONTORTION WITH HORSES, was born. CASTIZO displayed an innate gift for acting and incredible work ethics when learning new tricks. He could stand still for hours while I was performing complex poses on his back or anywhere around him. Working together, we recorded 5 films for the Art in Flexion circus school in San Diego. CASTIZO loved his career as a circus artist, and throughout his career – he brought smiles to many faces. CASTIZO became an ambassador for our barn – showing gentleness to visitors and giving kisses to anyone wanting to receive one. Perhaps unusual for an average horse, CASTIZO liked drinking beer and hanging out around people at the barn. . In August 2023, CASTIZO’s body began to signal further decline in health. I knew the time was coming and I’d have to say goodbye to my best friend. On March 22, 2024 CASTIZO crossed the Rainbow Bridge surrounded by his momma and friends at the barn, while getting many treats, hugs and kisses. . I miss you, my dear friend. We had a wonderful life together, filled with adventure and friendship. Rest in Peace CASTIZO.
