Popo started her life with Andrew and I with her cousin Maya the first year of our marriage in 2000 when they were 8 weeks old. They were the cutest and sweetest little chihuahuas. Popo chose her name as we were talking about the volcano in Mexico “Popocatepetl” and she perked up every time we said that name. She was tiny even as an adult - only 4 lbs, but there was so much character packed into that little body. She pretended not to like Rudy when we brought him home years later- we were thinking we needed another dog because Maya and Popo were so bonded that if one of them passed first, the other night just die of grief. Well Maya, the tough little Chihuahua died first, and Popo had Rudy, so she hung on another year- almost made it to 18! But now that she is gone, I know the real reason Rudy came into our lives- so we wouldn’t be dogless, he has helped us tremendously through the grief caused by losing Maya, then Popo a year apart.
