"Dogs leave a paw print on our hearts," I never understood this saying until I lost Milo. I always wanted a dog, so when I got an apartment of my own, I started the search. At the animal shelter when I passed by, he hardly made a sound as he jumped up and down on his hind legs, but he didn't need too, I felt his eyes begging me to take him home. Not more than 25 pounds, Milo turned my life upside down. No more living the single life, working all day and watching Netflix all night, I had a new responsibility who relied on me. Someone who needed me to feed him, take him on walks and love him. Just when I thought I had a handle on being a "dog mom," the scariest night of my life happened, he had a seizure. I didn't know he had this medical condition when I called him my own, but I don't know if it would have mattered I loved him so much. We worked through it, along with some amazing veterinarians and it soon became part of our lives, but as much as I hoped it would stop, it continued to get worse. After I called him my own for about a year and a half, he had a seizure he couldn't come out of. My family and friends say I gave him a better life. Really he gave me a better one, through the ups and downs he taught me to love unconditionally, he brought me companionship and he led me to try new things. It sounds silly that a 25 pound ball of fur can change your life, but he did. Love you Milo! You'll always be in my heart.
