Sunny Siler (Oct 15, 1995 – Feb 4, 2011)

Besides being a totally cute 15 pound cocker-poo, Sunny had two wonderful qualities – he lived life with great joy and he had a unique ability to read a people and respond to their unspoken need. He slept beside my desk and we often had eye contact. His eyes exuded love and trust when we looked at each other. He was a happy content boy – BUT when he was really happy, he smiled.

Except for travel to Europe and gym workouts, we were inseparable. When Sunny would spot me at airport arrivals, he would start barking and crying with excitement. It echoed against the concrete walls and all eyes turned to this adoring dog.

We would go for long walks on Queen Anne Hill or Discovery Park and we had lots of day hikes through the Cascades – but I was never alone because Sunny was always by my side enjoying the adventure. I’ll never forget hiking to the top of Mt. Si in 2004. It’s 4 miles to the top with a 3,400 ft. elevation gain. As we started back down the trail, it started to rain – and did it rain! It poured! Sunny just hung in here – and did a great job. When we got back to the car, he was chocolate brown from head to tail from the mud. We must have spent 20 minutes drying and cleaning him off. We then had to cover the car seats so he wouldn’t track the mud onto the seats.

Sunny, thank you for the 15 years of love and joy and adventure we shared together.

Dawn S.

Comments: Sunny was the sunshine of my life. He was a burst of light that made me feel happy and positively charged when I was with him. In retrospect, Sunny was a conduit of giving. That is why everyone loved him. He was always there giving pleasure, peace, company, and comfort. Sunny filled our lives! I especially enjoyed chop, chop, chopping away to prepare Sunny's part vegan meals. I think I appreciated doing this because it was a time when I could feel as if I could give back to him. A form of "thank you." Mainly, Sunny was a precious friend of mine. We'd sit together on the couch and he was always there cuddling against my legs. I regret that his warmth and closeness is a memory. We gain from every good or bad relationship we have in life. This is usually understood with regards to other people, however, if you knew Sunny, your life increased because he was one of us. You gained spiritually because he was so good! Sunny was a blessing to all who knew him and are now missing him, as I am.
