Maddie was the sweetest and smartest pup in my life over 70 years time. From the day we drove home from Spokane to her "new digs" in Ellensburg, she has been by my side. We've thoroughly explored the acreage here at the house and the Wenatchee Mountains. We've sat next to the Icicle River and watched the salmon swim upstream. We've hiked up the Umptanum and watched the Bighorn Sheep coming down the drainage. We've hiked the ridgelines of the Colockum and watched the newly eclosed Swallowtails catch the up-canyon wind. We've sat on the Columbia River's basalt benches and watched flotillas of Canada Geese go back and forth in front of us. Every morning, she felt it necessary to dispense the suitable number of "Licky Kisses" to get the day going properly. Every evening, she would come over for "warm snuggles". The day was officially closed when she would close her eyes and produce "the big exhale".

I don't know if I will ever have another companion such as Maddie. I do know I was fortunate to have an incredible eleven years with the little English Springer Spaniel girl.
