Buddy

A donation was made in memory of Buddy on Apr 10, 2011.

Buddy came into our family as a rescue dog in 1997. Small and sickly he grew into a happy, healthy black lab/chow mix with a laid-back demeanor which made him popular with everyone he met. Our son Nate was 8 years old when we got Buddy and the two of them spent the next 13 years as the best of friends. Buddy brought so much love and joy to our family. In 2006 Buddy was diagnosed with cancer and after a rough battle he recovered. Although we were told by his veterinarian Buddy would like not live past one year he defied the odds. Sadly, in 2010 the cancer reappeared. Despite his advancing age and his illness Buddy remained happy and continued to brighten all our lives. On Saturday, March 19 Buddy suffered a massive seizure and our family knew his time on this earth was over. Buddy died peacefully at home, surrounded by the family he'd brought so much joy. Our grief has been intense but is tempered by the knowledge his is in a better place, free of sickness and pain, chasing those ever elusive squirrels. Buddy - we will always love you and miss you.

Comments: We always thought that being abandoned as a puppy and having had such a difficult start in life was a big part of what made Buddy such a faithful and loving member of our family. Wherever we went, Buddy wanted to go with us - on car trips, on walks, houseboating on Lake Powell, to school, even kayaking (once). He was enthusiastic about everything in life and his spirit was contagious (which made it hard to deny him extra "treats"). To come home from work and see Buddy waiting in the window, and then hear him start barking with excitement, always made me feel that "life is good". We'll never stop missing Buddy, but he made us a better family and in that sense he's still with us and always will be.
