Bianca

A donation was made in memory of Bianca by the doctors and staff at North End Pet Hospital on Aug 28, 2025.

There will never be another dog like our Bianca. She is forever in our hearts as the most special of girls. She came into our lives at the start of our marriage in 2010. Our eyes met at a dog show in Lilongwe, Malawi--she was 3 months old and had had a rough start to life--one of seven puppies, all but two dying from parvo. Bianca was the cleverest pooch--my brother swears she was a person in a previous life. It might have taken us a bit of time to figure out what her name was (she wouldn't settle for just any name), but she quickly understood us and knew who to go to for whatever she needed--to Adrian, her person, for walks or to play or for treats; to me if she wanted affection or if she needed something specific. She completed our family.

When we left Malawi for the US, Bianca discovered the joy of travel. Her first long plane ride was not a success, but after that, she learned that being in her travel crate meant that she was going on an adventure with us. She lived with us in Germany, Cairo, and the US, and she traveled all over Europe in the back seat of the car. She even had her own passport! She loved a road trip, and traveled across the US twice. She thrived when on the beach--she loved a good run in the sand. She liked to go shopping with us, and always wandered up to shoe stores. Wherever we were, that is where she wanted to be.

She was timid in many ways until she was about 3. While timid with other people, she had doggie friends--Mutley taught her the joy of being in the car; Ellie and Cooper were her best playmates; Stanley had a huge crush on her and she taught him how to bark; Coco taught her how to be patient and gentle with smaller dogs. Casey, Daisy and Ramses were her friends in Cairo, along with all the street dogs that lived across from our apartment. She might be living the life of a diplopet, but she never forgot her roots as a street dog.

There will never be another dog like Bianca. Smart, funny and perceptive, able to read us, always at our side (or pawing our knees) as our doggie daughter. The last year or so of our girl's life was tough. She struggled with arthritis, canine dementia and other health challenges. She made her last drive across country to her final home in Tacoma. She helped us settle in and then let us know it was time to let her go to cross the rainbow bridge. She is running and playing with the friends who have gone before her (Spike, Ramses, Daisy and Stanley). When the time is right and we have mourned her long enough, she will send us a new companion. We know she is thinking of us too because her photo pops up in the frame in our living room all the time. We were blessed to have her in our lives for 15 years.
