Moose came home with us at the age of 11 weeks. He was the most adorable puppy, with his red-and-white cocker coloring and so-soft fur. Despite puppy obedience class and two rounds with private trainers, Moose was selective about obeying us. Oh well. Moose enjoyed our snuggling and stroking sessions, but was unfriendly with others. So he was a two-person devoted dog. He greeted us with joy when we came home – and expected an immediate treat. His favorite treats were green peppers, cucumbers, and asparagus. We also shared a few bites of our dinner with him, so he was schooled in the pleasures of people-food. Moose was treated for the usual cocker health problems – ear infections and skin rashes – until his ninth year, when he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. He had the best of care from his veterinary cardiologist, but the disease overwhelmed him. He died next to our bed at night on 11/9/09, after cuddling with us. We so miss our constant friend and warm companion.
