Lulu Belle

A donation was made in memory of Lulu Belle on Mar 29, 2010.

LuLu Belle came to me needing a temporary home when she was 7 years old. She had endured a very bad year with a homeowner in the condo complex where I lived. I am being kind to say her owner couldn't take care of herself, let alone LuLu Belle. I won't go into the circumstances leading up to her owner being taken away, but I'm just so grateful that as president of the association I was called over to the scene. I already had my dear "Mr. Perkins", but said I would take LuLu Belle as I didn't want her to go to the Humane Society. (She had come from there a year before.) Perkins thankfully accepted her as one of the family. When it became apparent her owner could not again live alone, I considered finding a home for LuLu Belle. But when the time came to actually do it, I just couldn't send her down that road again. She made it known that she loved us and was not leaving. I'm so glad we both made that decision.
LuLu Belle was the easiest and sweetest little fuzzy friend I have ever had. Life with her was a complete joy to me. After losing Perkins, she eventually retired with me and we moved to the coast of Washington. This was when she was 12 years young. We had 3 more years here with her a mascot of all homeowners in the condo complex, welcoming all people and dogs who came with lots of sniffs, kisses, and tail going in a circle. On our daily walks, (no leashes necessary with her) the neighbors came out to visit with LuLu Belle, and she was loved by everyone who knew her. They all agreed, she was not just a dog - she was people!
Her death came suddenly, as she has just been diagnosed with a heart murmur 3 months before and was on medication. I had had Mr. Perkins for 3 years after his first diagnosis, so thought there would be time to adjust to it. Instead she couldn't make it any longer. She was 15 years of age, but still walking, although slower, and loving her life with me at the beach. She looked like a young puppy.
I will always love my little sweetie pie, and cannot even think of her without tears falling, as they are while writing about her. I know in my heart, that she is with Perkins now, and that they both will run to meet me when the time comes, and we will cross that Rainbow Bridge together. Sleep well, my LuLu Belle - till we meet again. I love you always, Mommy
