In the fall of 2001, a friend presented my husband and I with a barely weaned black kitten, the litter runt. Another friend suggested the name Salem, after Salem, Massachusetts, where we visit every year at Halloween. He was a “magical” and perfect “Halloween Cat”. He soon grew to 20+ lbs. In 2007 he was diagnosed with diabetes. He was put on a regiment of insulin and special diet food. He went through many ups and downs with the disease. On April 2. 2011 he used up the last of his nine lives and succumbed to the complications of diabetes. We owe many thanks to Dr. Ernie Patterson and staff of the Animal Care Clinic in Jackson, Wyoming who kept him alive so we could enjoy him for many years. They dubbed him “Salem the Wonder Cat”. We would also like to thank Dr. Cheryl from the WSU veterinary college. She kindly responded to our questions via email when we first discovered Salem was ill.
He left pawprints on our hearts.
Sincerely,
