Tuxedo came into our lives the summer of 1995. He had belonged to a neighbor who had to move and couldn’t take him with them. They found him a nice home about 10 miles away, but apparently didn’t ask him whether he wanted to move there as he walked back home. Another neighbor took him in, but once again Tux had his own idea of where he wanted to live and he took up residence on our porch. He would go to the neighbor for meals, but he came right back to our porch. Finally when the weather got very nasty we gave in and invited him into our home. The look he gave us as he walked through the front door was “what took you so long?”
Based on neighborhood recollections, we think he was about 20 years old when he died on February 11, 2010. He was quite a character. It was his way or no way about almost anything. He was very patient and persistent until you finally gave in and fed him where and when he wanted and moved the cat box to his idea of a great location. He survived losing an eye and became the favorite of the neighborhood kids as the local "pirate cat". He was not very big, but his vocal ability was legendary and his personality was mighty. There was not a lap in the house that he didn't claim as his domain. Everyone, including avowed cat haters, loved him and those who had allergies would risk a reaction to pet him. He is missed very much.
