Chrissy

A donation was made in memory of Chrissy by Doctors and Staff of the Valley Veterinary Clinic and Dr. French on Sep 27, 2011.

We lived in Rancho Cucamonga, CA in a home whose back yard connected to a large city park. One day I was home and notice a pup walking alone along the rear fence. I had a bone a had saved for a friends dog and offered it to this stray. She took it happily and stuck around the back fence until my partner came home that night. I let her in the yard to meet him and she peed on his shoes. He thought this stray was cute but we weren't looking to get a pet.

That night we left for the Columbus Day weekend. My partner said if she was still there when we got home we would see what we could do. We came home and she had made herself a little nest in the leaves along our back fence in the park. My partner and I realized the holiday weekend would be over the next day and the Humane Society would probably be coming to pick her up. We let her back into our yard where she adopted us, was given the name Chrissy in honor of Christopher Columbus and lived with us "Happily Ever After".

We moved to Pahrump, NV in 2005 with our then 13 year old pup, Chrissy. She had boughts with cancer tumors in CA before we moved, but in 2006 she had developed a very large tumor on her rear left leg.

We took her to one of the two vets that were in our town at that time. The vet there flatly told us she had lived her life span when she got uncomfortable we would put her to sleep. That did not sit well with us and we went home feeling defeated. A few months passed and Chrissy was able to do much less than before even having to drag her rear leg through the doggy door .

Unwilling to just throw in the towel we took her to the other vet in town, Dr. Biermeyer at Nye County Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Biermeyer felt he could try to operate but the tumor would most likely be entwined in the mussel and be a fairly difficult operation. We had no choice, we had to try of course.

He performed the operation and the 4+ lb. tumor wasn't entwined in the muscle, it came out like a small ham. Her life improved dramatically, we had our ol' pup back. She lived another 6 years under Dr. Biermeyer's care.

There were more operations and medication but our baby maintained her active lifestyle and stayed on with us for 6 more years. After her losing her battle with age, Dr. Biermeyer and the Nye County Veterinary Hospital were there once again, first through the process then with condolence cards and this donation to the Pet Memorial Fund in her name.

There are not enough words to express the thanks we have for the entire Nye County Veterinary Hospital for giving us that blessing. But, we will try one more time... Thank You All So Much!!!
