Jubal Lee

A donation was made in memory of Jubal Lee on Nov 16, 2010.

Jubal Lee was our close friend and companion for 12 years after we
got him as a 6 year old from the shelter. Living to 18 years of age
he had a long, long life. His passing leaves a large hold in the
fabric of our days. Jubal Lee was a gentle soul that got along with
the cats and other dogs.
The way Jubal Lee came to be a member of our family went this way.
Jubal Lee had been live trapped up in the mountains and taken to the
animal shelter. Apparently he'd been lost by hikers. At the shelter
Jubal Lee sat in the corner with his face to the wall and practiced
the sheltie mantra of "I'm not here. I'm not here." He would not
eat or respond to anyone. We heard he was at the shelter and
immediately went to see him. The shelter personnel tried to
discourage us from adopting him, saying, "He may not come out of this
shocky state. I won't relate to anyone." I scooped Jubal Lee up in
my lap and sat on the floor with him awhile to get a feel of his
condition. He was very thin, matted and terrified. We brought Jubal
Lee home to our sheltie family, coaxed food into him and loved him a
lot. Gradually he came out of his shell and gained confidence.
Jubal Lee had apparently been an apartment dog. He was comfortable
outside on leash but at first was very frightened to be outside off
leash, even in the fenced yard. He was obedience and house trained; a
perfect gentleman.
We loved him and joyed in his presence for 12 years. Carolyn
