Shenzi

A donation was made in memory of Shenzi on Apr 18, 2011.

We adopted Shenzi in June of 1998 from the Humane Society of the Palouse. She was approximately 6 months old and had been dropped back at the shelter two different times. We will never understand how anyone could have returned Shenzi two times. She was a truly incredible dog. As a young dog she had endless energy and a sparkling personality. Her favorite past time was running through the wheat fields and mountains of the Palouse. We moved to Spokane in 2001 and Shenzi never complained and just acclimated to her new home without missing a beat. In 2005, Shenzi and I became a Pet Partner Team through the Delta Society. We re-certified in 2008. One of Shenzi's greatest gifts was her love for people. I always said that Shenzi knew no strangers! Shenzi loved EVERYONE. Via Delta Society, we visited area nursing homes and Alzheimer's units between 2005 and 2009. Shenzi just loved visiting and the people in the facilities just adored her. She was truly amazing. Shenzi tore her cruciate ligaments in both back legs in late 2008 and had to have two surgeries. The wonderful vets at Wandermere Animal Hospital, especially Linda Wood provided incredible care for Shenzi during her convalescence. She was a fabulous patient and worked really hard to rehabilitate through those surgeries. Her favorite rehab was the underwater treadmill exercise with Dr. Sonni Gilbert at Animal Pain Management. She loved going to see Sonni too! Even though she was able to rehabilitate her legs, she had to retire as a Pet Partner as she couldn't stand for long periods of time. That didn't stop Shenzi from enjoying life though. She was still an avid hiker and an amazing swimmer. She loved swimming in Priest Lake more than anything else.

We will be forever thankful to the vets and staff at Wandermere Animal Hospital. Over many, many years they cared for and loved Shenzi. We wish to thank them for the donation to the Pet Memorial program at WSU.
We miss Shenzi so, so much. She will forever be in our hearts and our fond memories of her are helping us get through these tough days. Shenzi was so special and we loved her so very much. Rest in peace sweet Shenzi.
