Dagmar

A donation was made in memory of Dagmar on Jul 16, 2015.

Every once in a while a perfect match comes along, and our perfect match was Dagmar - nicknamed “Puppy”. She was a constant source of companionship, joy, happiness and unconditional love. As with most Great Danes, her size and voice intimidated most people when they first met her. That however didn’t last for long - she was the most gentle and loving dog we have ever known. We will always cherish the time she spent with us and the wonderful memories we have of her. Her travelling to the “Rainbow Bridge” caused us sorrow, but she will be in our hearts always.

As part of the family, Dagmar had specific chores she was assigned - actually she assigned them to herself. Her favorite was to guard Linda while she weeded the flower bed. Dagmar would find an area close to Linda and finding some flowers that she liked, she would lay right in the middle of them. Linda tried to break her of this to no avail – of course she didn’t try too hard.

Her second job was to make sure everyone was in bed at the proper time. If either one of us stayed up too late, Dagmar would stand in the bedroom doorway and stare us down. If that didn’t work, she would stomp her feet on the floor. If that didn’t get everyone to bed, as a last resort Dagmar would bark - and that always worked! Once everyone was in bed, she was content to lie down on her pillow at the foot of the bed and go to sleep.

We want to thank Dr. Korn who worked so diligently to improve Dagmar’s quality of life. We had serious concerns in the beginning: because of the size and scope of the hospital, we were concerned that Dagmar might be put in a cage and not be given the attention, personal care, and affection she thrived on. Our concerns were not warranted.

Our sincerest appreciation also goes out to Heather Skinner who gave us daily updates and pictures between our visits. She far exceeded what needed to be done and gave Dagmar what she truly needed most: love, affection and human companionship. Thank you Heather..

We also want to thank the others in the hospital (whom we did not meet) who were involved in Dagmar’s care - she was a people person and always did her best to please everyone. We truly appreciate their interventions to keep Dagmar as comfortable as possible.

Linda and Mick M.
