Lola
A donation was made in memory of Lola by the doctors and staff at Green Lake Animal Hospital on Jan 23, 2020.
Lola was born August 4, 2010 under a crepe myrtle tree on a horse farm in Haleyville, Alabama, daughter of Chief and Robin. Casey and Blake met her at 3 weeks old and fell in love. We brought her to her Golden home in Birmingham that October, where she ate her first meal of chicken pot pie and had to get a flea bath. She quickly became the self-appointed mascot of the UAB Otolaryngology residency. She was a faithful companion and by our side from Birmingham to Oahu, Hawaii, then to Seattle. She was present for our engagement, our mini honeymoon on Dauphin Island, and Casey’s pregnancies, c-section recoveries, and the arrival of her two brothers, Luke and Jimmy. She saw us settle in Seattle with healthy sons, prosperous jobs, a wonderful home, and the support of Grandmomma, Cathy. Her favorite foods include bacon, peanut butter, bananas, and basically anything dropped on the floor by a human. Oh and definitely kitty poo. Her last road trip was to Mt. Baker National Forest, where she hiked Artist’s Point. Her last car trip was to Candy Cane Lane to see Christmas lights.
She shed her weight in fur daily. Her favorite activities included lounging on any article of clothing left around, making drool prints on the sofa, croissant-ing on pillows, splooting, frapping, barking at delivery trucks, supervising meal time with toddlers, cuddling, and walks, especially off the leash along the beach or through the woods.
She enjoyed a wade in the water but was not much of a swimmer. Although she did surprise us with an epic doggy paddle on her first visit to Smith Lake in Cullman and the Greens’ first visit to Lanikai beach in Hawaii. Her favorite way to interact with water was straight from a hose, snapping and barking at the fast moving water. She loved getting splashed from our pool on Aikane St.
Luke’s favorite memory of Lola is the way she would chase and pop bubbles as we blew them together in the backyard. She really enjoyed backyard playtime, especially chasing the bubbles, soccer, and fetch with a tennis ball/stick/rope. She would fetch until we were tired. She got really excited with barks and jumps when we danced and frolicked. She taught Jimmy his first word, “dog”.
She was sweet, silly, and pretty. She was loyal and quirky. She had a spectacular rump. She warmed our feet and our hearts. She got as close to us as she could without really getting in the way. She was a puppy through her very last day.
She lived a full and happy life, always surround by those who cared deeply for her. She got to eat avocados straight from the tree. She spent most of the nights of her life on Casey’s lap, winding down from the day. She leapt for joy or perhaps irritation when we put on pants. She was the first to greet us in the morning, waking in the wee hours to eat her breakfast. She was ready for dinner at 3pm. And would hiss awkwardly until 5pm or someone broke down and emptied 5/8 cups of food into her bowl. If she was thirsty, she would lick her empty bowl so we’d know that she needed a refill.
She was always available for quick pet and when she got happy from pets, she’d sing a little strange grumbly song. She had the softest bit of fur behind her ears and enjoyed many inner ear scratches from Blake. Other favorite spots for pets include her proud tuft, rump, belly, actually anywhere.
She passed quickly in the arms of her human from a cancer in her belly on December 26, 2019. She joins great friends, Tucker Hirsch and Cassie Campbell, across the rainbow bridge. She is survived by her beloved ohana and best doggy pals.
