Kooshie

A donation was made in memory of Kooshie by Dr. Rance Sellon on Mar 11, 2020.

Kooshie was absolutely my most loyal friend. In 2018 she spent two months with me, away from the home she loved, while I underwent major spine surgery. She gave me strength through the hardest thing I've ever done. Little did I know that I would do the same for her a year later when, after two failed surgeries in Montana, we found ourselves heading to WSU with the slight hope of palliative treatment for malignant myxosarcoma (the primary tumor then growing out through an unhealed lesion in her right hind limb).

WSU gave me hope...not only for palliative treatment...but for a chance at a cure via surgical debulking of the tumor and subsequent radiation. The goal was always the same...Kooshie's quality of life. I stayed with Kooshie near WSU for two months while she went through her treatment. She was incredibly brave...so determined to survive and remain a part of her family.

Four months after her debulking surgery at WSU we learned that the tumor had returned and most likely had metastasized to her lung. We now began palliative chemotherapy and pain management. Two months later Kooshie was experiencing unrelenting pain and her quality of life suffered greatly. Thus, on March 1st 2020 my family helped Kooshie cross the Rainbow Bridge...in the home she dearly loved. Her presence here will always be missed.

Although a cure for Kooshie was not achieved...WSU gave us another six months with our precious girl. There are no words that can express how much that time meant to me and my family. We will always be grateful to WSU for the exemplary care given to Kooshie and for the genuine kindness extended to me.

Special thanks to:

Dr Boel Fransson (Surgery)

Dr Jean Fidel (Radiation Oncology)

The entire WSU Team involved in Kooshie's treatment

and to Dr Rance Sellon (Oncology) who from day one (when we first entered WSU) until the days following Kooshie's passing was with me every step of the way...providing me with unconditional kindness, guidance and support.

Sincerely, Bonnie Lyons
