Polly, a piebald miniature dachshund, came into our lives 12 years ago at the age of 5, when neighbors found her wandering loose in their driveway. She was in pretty tough shape, and had clearly just had puppies, and was in need of a lot of attention. They knew we had two mini doxies already and had an affinity for the breed, and asked if we would want to meet her. Of course we met her, fell in love, and she immediately took over our family in all the best possible ways. She was nearly 18 when we had to make the difficult decision to bring her story to an end, but we hope the years with us made her rough start a distant, forgotten memory. As with any rescue, she ended up saving us as much as we saved her, and our world was better for the time we had her in it. Rest in peace, little girl.
