A donation was made in memory of Cody on
Jan 08, 2010.
Cody was a gift from my father when he was only 8 weeks old and I was a young 21 year old frat boy. Fifteen years and a couple thousand retrieves later I had to say goodbye to him. I was with him at the end and with vet assistance was able to complete the final step myself, fulfilling a promise to Cody that no one would do it but me.
Despite his love of water he was always more of an upland game dog than a waterfowler. He lived a long and full life. Not many dogs can claim to have hiked mountains in Colorado, white water rafted the Salmon River in Idaho and hunted pheasants in South Dakota multiple times. All in addition to his many adventures in the State of Washington. Neither of us could have asked for more out of our 15+ years together. In his later years each time I thought his time in the field was done he would surprise me. I joked that he was retired more times than Micheal Jordan. His last retrieve (a dove) came days after his 14th birthday. I mourn his loss but am grateful for all we shared.
He outlasted five residences, three girlfriends and a wife. I have a young four year old lab and will have other dogs in the future but none will be what Cody was. He was/is to all that knew him.....The Best Dog Ever.
