Keyser

A donation was made in memory of Keyser by Judith Heywood on Jan 18, 2011.

Keyser was our big guy. A large 100 lb fawn greyhound who loved everyone he met. He died suddenly today, one Saterday morning a few months after his 10th birthday.

In memorial to such a sweet dog who was truly a part of our family, I'd like to share a few words about him.

Keyser was picked out for us by our friends and neighbors, Kari and Bill Young who head the group, Phoenix Adopt A Greyhound. We already had a little white and brindle greyhound named Lily but we requested they find us a "big dumb fun loving boy".

What we got was a 5 year old retired racer that was big, lonely, and dumb. Or, so we thought. Bow Brewsky's name was changed to Keyser, so named after Kevin Spacey's character in the movie, The Usual Suspects.

As far as being smart, he could never do tricks except for laying down, but Keyser ended up being a ingenious Houdini who could unlock and open doors whether they had levers and knobs. Our house then became baby proof before we had our daughter Ella.
He escaped a half dozen times on adventures through the neighborhood. Within a short time of him running, we would get the call from one of our distant neighbors directing us where to pick up our thrill seeking hound.

He had a meet and greet attitude that was magnetic to children and most adults that we meet when taking him out and about. He just craved attention and wanted most in life to snuggle up and be loved.
For those he really liked, he had a special greeting that involved burying his head at his eye level anywhere he could near. This unfortunately meant goosing you, front or back.

He loved to play fetch with his stuffed animal toys, and when he couldn't find his, Ella's toys filled in fine. If it weren't for his bad teeth I would have played his other favorite game more, tug-of-war.

There are those pets to whom you create a special bond. Keyser was one dog that you couldn't help but love.

We will miss his excited face peeking through the door each time we would come home.

Keyser, our big guy, your memory will always bring a smile to our faces.
