Jessie, May 1998 - November 3, 2015.
We adopted Jessie from a Sacramento shelter when she was about a year old. We took her to obedience and the instructor always used her to test new commands because Jessie was so quick. It was her intelligence as a Border Collie mix that prompted my husband to proclaim, never again because he wanted to be the smartest species in the house! She was trained with hand signals which served us well as she began to lose her hearing a few years ago. Occasionally, she would join me at LA City College and would lay quietly under my desk, so quietly in fact that many people didn't know she was there. She was my traveling companion during my weekly drive between Fresno and Glendale and eventually made her way on the bed to sleep away the night. After she could no longer get on the bed, she happily slept next to the bed on her mat right next to me. I was not ready to let her go, I saw in her eyes that she was ready. As Border Collies do, she always looked me straight in the eyes and never wavered, that is how she crossed the Rainbow Bridge, her gaze looked with mine. My precious girl.....
