Jay

I met little jay in the hood of my car in the mall parking lot. Someone had left a post it on my window saying “a little black kitten is in your hood. P.S. he’s very tiny” I popped the hood and there he was. Tiny, filthy and his eyes almost completely closed from eye goop and crust. I got him, put him in the front seat and closed the door so I could close the hood. When I opened the door, he squeezed through the gas peddle into the car’s dash. He stayed there all night and finally came out in the morning. I gave him a bath and took him to have a check up. I decided to keep him after failing to give him up for adoption. He bonded with my other kitty, Luna, very slowly but was very loving toward myself very quickly. Two weeks in, Luna and Jay were getting along and cuddling and I was completely in love with him. Late Saturday night he started having breathing problems. I took him to the ER where he stayed the night. He was discharged in the morning, his vet called me later in the evening saying they had been informed of his visit and asked to see him immediately. He then stayed the night at the ER again the same day he was discharged and overnight at the vet the next day. The next morning, Tuesday, I got a call from his vet saying it wasn’t doing well. Nobody wants to make the decision to let their pet go but I had to do it. I sobbed and held him as he passed. I’ll always miss my little Jay but I’ll also never forget him.
