Rico

A donation was made in memory of Rico by the doctors and staff at Valley Veterinary Clinic on Mar 09, 2022.

Rico was my fur companion of almost twelve years. He was a long haired, black and white chihuahua with crooked paws, and spots that peppered underneath his fur. His was the most unique looking dog I had ever seen. My family got him when he was just a puppy, and I remember during his puppyhood we would catch him stealing and sucking on binkys. He was always so excitable that he would piddle as as puppy, and I am happy to say he eventually grew out of that. His best friend was one of our other dogs named Sabreena, who dwarfed him to the point that he could sleep and snuggle on top of her. When he was a few years old, he and my weiner dog Mazie had a litter of three puppies and that was a highlight of my life as it was such a beautiful thing to experience. As Rico got older he started to lose his vision. One day one eye was completely clouded and then years down the road he lost his sight in his other eye as well. This never stopped nor hindered him. He trotted happily as always and just relied on my family to help guide him. When I moved out of my family's home I got the privilege of taking Rico with me. We moved into a smaller place where he thrived, as it was less noisy and an easier layout for a senior dog. From then he was spoiled and would sleep in the bed beside me curled up next to my head, and I would buy him a roast beef sandwich every time he had to make a trip to the vet. Sadly, the vet visits became more frequent as in his old age health problems kept popping up left and right. I treated what I could but when it got to the point that his health was too precarious to do surgeries, and his breathing had become labored I knew in my heart it was time. I stroked Rico's fur when he crossed the rainbow bridge after making the heart wrenching decision to let him go peacefully with euthanasia under the care of the doctor who had done so much for him. Rico, was a such a blessing and there will be a blatant hole in my life from his absence. I love him dearly and know he is now doing his lopsided trot in a better place. I am thankful that something wonderful was able to come from his passing in the form of a donation under his name to help other animals. He got along with everyone and everything and was a little buddy to all, so a donation to help others is so fitting for him. Rest in peace my sweet boy.
