Fannie

A donation was made in memory of Fannie by Elizabeth Miller on Jan 08, 2024.

I am naming my gift to the Washington State University Foundation DVM Enhanced Clinical Training Fund in Honor of my Dog, Fannie. Thanks to a wise Mother, who taught me to love and care for animals, I have had a companion pet for most of my life. All these four-legged creatures have needed yearly veterinary care, but Fannie has had health issues, has needed more than the usual routine care, and has consequently taught me about the importance of expert clinical practice in Veterinary Medicine. This type of veterinary practice is built on a solid knowledge base and repetitive opportunities to observe signs and symptoms, recognize the need for treatment, have the skills to intervene and/or refer for specialty care. Students who are learning to be Veterinarians need time in clinical practice settings to learn these skills. It takes more than one encounter to develop the competence and confidence needed for good practice. Therefore, I am giving this gift to WSU with the intent that it be used to provide WSU Veterinary Students with opportunities for enhanced clinical practice as a part of their Veterinary Education. In doing so I am also expressing my gratitude to all the veterinarians who have cared for Fannie and who have supported me as her Pet Parent during the past 13 years.
