Jules brought so much joy into our lives, we can hardly believe she isn't with us anymore. Four years ago, prior to the start of the pandemic, we went in search of a single medium-sized dog to adopt. It was slow going waiting to hear back from rescues, so on a whim we applied to adopt twin 4.5-year-old 90-lb Golden Retrievers, Jax and Jules. Their owner had passed away and they had been placed in the care of Smidget Rescue. They came to live with us in early February 2020 and immediately we knew these dogs were special.
Brother Jax is the life of the party, never met someone who wasn't instantly a friend, all giant paws, giant blocky head, light gold in color. Jules was darker gold, with a beautiful face and a wiggly bum. She took longer to win over. Little by little, she started to show us real affection and her sassy personality. Jules was very smart, learned quickly, and you could see the intelligence in her eyes. Jules loved to dip her head down and push into you, these were her "hugs." She would hug you for a while and if you seemed like you were done, she would put her paw on your knee to let you know that you certainly were not done giving hugs. She was a dream to walk on leash. She was quick to let you know if UPS or Fed/Ex even just drove by the house and she would go positively crazy when they came to the door. She loved eating ice, lettuce hearts and green teeth treats. She didn't always love other dogs, she hated when anyone went in the garage and she would tease Jax by stealing his toys (he would respond by shredding said toy). She would bare her teeth and snap them together anytime she was agitated, this was her alter ego, Chompers. Jules loved to chase rabbits and squirrels and dig holes in the backyard. Even at 8 years old, she still enjoyed a good tussle with her brother.
Jax and Jules helped us physically and mentally get through the pandemic, with their endless affection and playfulness. They are and were known by all in the neighborhood and by our friends and family. They are stunning animals and got compliments wherever we went. Jax and Jules are our babies and we are devastated that Jules left us so soon. Rest in peace our sweet girl, Mom, Dad and brother miss you terribly.
