Cammie
A donation was made in memory of Cammie by Kevin Choy on May 04, 2011.
“Cammie’s Saving Grace” joined our family a mere nine days before I lost my mother to cancer. Cammie was a sweet soul, who brought a quiet calm to our grieving household. Her wiggly puppiness and nocturnal snoring were a constant source of fun!
In just 18 months, she was a certified Hospice Visitation dog with Carlsbad (NM) Pet Therapy Association, bringing joy to people who were making the most of their time on earth. She visited schools, service clubs, and nursing homes as an ambassador for mixed breed dogs.
In her down time, she loved going for walks, swimming in the river, and playing with her big “brother”, Bunkin. When we moved to Washington, she was overjoyed to find not one, but three rivers! Each day, we would take a two mile walk. Her tail was always wagging, and she had a giant smile on her face. She could also tell time: every day, when the clock read 6, she would stare intently at us…because it was feeding time! If we didn’t react quickly enough, she would stomp her feet, and make a racket until her bowl was filled.
After Bunkin’s passing, her new little “brother” came home. Jake was a handful, and Cammie was as tolerant as any dog I’ve ever seen. Although it took some time, they became inseparable. During her last months, as she battled cancer, she was comforted by Jake, and when he endured a total hip replacement in November, she was there to nurse him.
Cammie faced her disease with dignity, grace, and tenacity. Our home is not the same without her, yet we know that when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge, she was finally at peace, running free and making new friends.
We cannot express our thanks adequately to the teams at both WSU and our local veterinary office, VCA Animal Clinic (Richland). The care and compassion you’ve shown us has been of immeasurable comfort.
And THANK YOU, WSU, for providing excellent treatment for our family members, and for creating a forum to share our story.
