Kimmi came into my life six years ago, a very furry grey terrier with the sweetest face you ever could find. My husband volunteers with a rescue organization, so he insisted I meet Kimmi just after we had said goodbye to our darling terrier, Sherlock. I wasn't quite ready for another pet but Bob told me Kimmi, around eight years old, had been in a cage for many months. She really needed a home. She'd obviously been abused so it took two years of love and nurturing for Kimmi to walk with a wagging tail and a cool, wet nose; sadly, she never trusted us enough to stop ducking her head when we wanted to stroke her. One day she surprised us with wonderful, delightful shout, it happened ever so often when she was truly happy. Kimmi had an internal clock that precisely indicated the time of day for meals and snacks, and she was very impatient if kept waiting. She loved to hang with us, always laying at my feet in the kitchen, or with Bob while he worked at his sculpture, or laying at the side of the bathtub while I bathed. Kimmi had such a strong spirit despite the handicaps of aging. She lost her hearing many years ago, then she suffered arthritis and finally senility and loss of sight, but she always had that sweet, sweet face and disposition. Through the loving care of the wonderful doctors at the Beverly Hills Small Animal Hospital, we kept Kimmi alive and well as long as possible until it seemed time to say goodbye.
