It's taken me a month to write this, because writing it means I have to admit that he's truly gone. I want to write that he led a beautiful life, but the reality is the first half was hell. By the time he was 4 he'd been seized by rescue twice; both times having suffered some of the most unimaginable cruelty humans could possibly inflict. That's when we got him, at the age of 4, weighing just 42lbs, with a necrotic tail, in kidney failure, and an absolute nervous wreck of a dog; we threw all of our love and patience at him, and prayed. Our vet said she had never seen a dog make such a rapid recovery. Eventually we got him up to a healthy weight of 86lbs. We taught him how to hike, and took him everywhere with us. He saw more of our beautiful country than most people ever will. The longest hike he ever did was 14 miles. A truly incredible feat for a three-legged dog. He loved treats, and fuzzy blankets, and he was one of the smartest beings I've ever encountered. His absolute favorite thing was rainy days, snuggled up on the couch. We couldn't go back and change his beginning, but we did change his ending. We loved him with everything we had until his life was cut short just a month after his 8th birthday, Osteosarcoma of the nasal cavity stole him from us, a disease so rare is occurs in less than 1% of dogs. Echo may not have had any luck in life, but he did have all of the love we had to give in the short time we had with him. He was an absolutely beautiful soul, and I know he's waiting for us amongst the wildflowers where he flicked and played so many times. Forever my golden boy 8/5/2014-9/1/2022
