Sam

A donation was made in memory of Sam on Sep 03, 2009.

My beloved kitty cat Sam (Sammers) passed away on Tuesday, August 18th 2009 early in the morning. My wife Sara and I were by his side when he slipped away. Sam was 17 1/2 years old and led a joyous and full life. I adopted Sam when he was about 3 1/2 years old and he was with me for the next 14 years. Over those years, he and I forged the closest of loving bonds with each other, and we became the best of friends.

He was a truly pure soul, and as friendly and outgoing as any cat I've ever met. He had a sweet and gentle disposition, and loved nothing more than hopping up on my lap for some quality time. He had a unique purr (I called it the "Motorboat" purr) that never failed to melt my tensions away. The little guy saw me through some of the toughest times in my life, just by being there and comforting me. Because of Sammers, I was never alone.

When Sam was about 12 1/2 years old, he began to develop symptoms of diabetes. The vet confirmed this and we put him on a special diet and twice-daily insulin shots. It was an adjustment for both of us, but gradually we settled into a routine, and it was that way for the rest of his life. When his kidney disease worsened, we had to put him on subcutaneous fluids. That was even harder than the insulin, but we both got used to that eventually as well.

Sammers was a hearty little guy, and he adjusted to the new routine and continued to flourish, with me at his side always. It was that way until the very end, which came much too soon for both of us. The only consolation is that he was here at home with us when he left, where he was happiest.

Sam was cremated and his remains are now home with us, which is where he belongs. Nothing but the best for the best friend I ever had.

Sammers, I love you so much and always will. Rest in peace my sweet boy. I'll see you on the Rainbow Bridge.

Your Best Friend Always,

John
