Niki was an "unplanned" adoption, because my friend and I had only planned on stopping by the Columbus MS shelter to visit with the cats for a while. When I held six-month old Niki, then tried to let her go, she refused to let me go and insisted that she come home with me. With that sweet face, I couldn't say no. In all of her 15 years, she never stopped showing her appreciation for taking her in. She brought me all sorts of presents from outside, from mice, baby bunnies, grasshoppers, snakes and anything she could catch. She slept with me every night by sharing my pillow, and she traveled with me as I moved with the Air Force. She lived in four states in her life. No matter the day, I could count on her to greet me at the door with her loving face and little meow. I was able to cherish her last few months and maximize laptime and lots of great petting time with her as she battled oral cancer. She was strong and sweet until the very end, when she told me her time had come. She was the last of my original kitty trio, and she will always be greatly loved and missed. I am glad that Abby and Norman were at the Rainbow Bridge to meet her and they could be together again.
