Delilah Rose

A donation was made in memory of Delilah Rose by Doctors and Staff of the Siskiyou Veterinary Hospital on Jan 06, 2011.

Delilah Rose Deason was a Jackhuahua and was born on February 16, 2008 and came home to live with us when she was 10 weeks old. I got laid off from my job about 3 weeks after getting her and we were able to bond in a wonderful way. Delilah was your typical “Velcro Dog”. She was always sitting with me or my husband. All she wanted was love and there was plenty to give her. She lived with our other dog, Sampson and our cat Harry and got along wonderfully with both. She was the smallest (3 pounds) and the youngest in the house but she definitely ran the show. Delilah had an antique wardrobe full of outfits for every occasion. Her favorite song was “ All I Want To Do” by Sugarland. When the song came on, she stopped everything and ran to you, held your face down and smothered you with kisses.
Right before she turned 7 months old, we found that she had Legg Perthes Disease. We scheduled surgery for her and Dr. Babbit did a beautiful job fixing her right up. Delilah enjoyed her visits to the vets office. She got to wear her newest and prettiest dress and got lots of attention from everyone that saw her. Even at the local Starbucks!
We threw a 1st Birthday Party for Delilah and had homemade Pupcakes for all 15 dogs that came. 2 came from out of state for the party. We sang Happy Birthday to her and all dogs went home with a new sweater and a goodie purse with homemade treats. Oh we had a people birthday cake too…
When Delilah was about 1 year 7 months, she collapsed out of the blue. We rushed her to the emergency vet where they found that she had an irregular heartbeat. After keeping her overnight, running xrays and additional tests, they found that she suffered from heart disease. We were told that she would only live for about 3 more months. Of course we didn’t hear that…we loved her way too much and pampered her. We thought she would live forever with all the love and attention she received. Unfortunately, in August 2010, I thought she was simply not feeling well. We took her to the Vet and found that her heart was shutting down. We did the toughest thing we had to do and held on to her while she went to sleep. Her heart was beating only 40 beats per minute. We did not want her to suffer a heart attack on the way home. The entire office felt our pain. They loved Delilah as much as we did. We were so lucky to have her for the 2.5 years that we did. She was very special to us and will forever remain in our hearts.

Comments: I never got to meet Delilah in person but photos of her and stories of her antics brightened many of my days. I have no doubt she left this world knowing just how much she was loved and cherished.
