We adopted Mensa 9 years ago from a "kill-shelter " in CT. We fell in love with her right away. She was so smart and had a "human like" quality about her. She could understand even abstract concepts such as "tomorrow" or "today". She was so loving but not in a needy way. Some of her favorite things were to swim in a lake, take long walks with us and above all spend a day at "doggy daycare". She was also a big "talker" . She would "talk" to express her contentment or her discontentment. When someone would scratch her back end , she would do her trademark "rottie arabesque" which consisted in lifting her paw straight behind her. For 2 years, we trained her as a search and rescue dog because we thought she would enjoy it and it would give her a purpose. We stopped the training when we noticed that her "prey drive" was increasing. She moved with us from CT to Washington 4 years ago and really enjoyed living here. Se was part of every aspect of our life and she loved every member of our family. We are happy that she managed to enjoy 4 months of relative comfort after her diagnosis of osteosarcoma in October. She passed away this past Monday and we are overcome with sorrow. We take comfort in the thought that we did everything we could to make her happy and that one day we will be reunited as an eternal family.
